Special Olympics Illinois is excited to launch our Inaugural Ride for Respect event benefiting the 23,000 traditional athletes and 13,000 Young Athletes participating across Illinois. As the Pandemic of 2020 rages on, the novelty of staying home is wearing off! Ride for Respect is the perfect opportunity to get out of the house, feel the wind on your face and hit the road for the athletes of Special Olympics Illinois!

How It Works

Ride for Respect is open to anyone who drives a 2 or 4 wheel vehicle and wants to help raise funds and awareness for Special Olympics Illinois.  Participants pledge how many miles they plan to travel and then pick their own date, time and route to #RideForRespectIL between October 5 and October 31. Hit the road solo, invite passengers to go along for the ride or create a team with family, friends or your riding club and make a day out of it!

Registration is $20 per driver and $10 per passenger. All Drivers will receive an exclusive Ride for Respect Bandanna!

Participants are encouraged to create an online fundraising page to share their #RideForRespectIL efforts with family and friends! Don't forget to ask them to donate to your efforts or join you on your ride! As an added incentive, individuals who raise $125 will receive an exclusive 2020 Ride for Respect long-sleeved t-shirt as a thank you for your support!

Pit Stops

All participants receive access to the official Ride for Respect Pit Stop listing and offers.  These businesses across the state are offering exclusive discounts and/or giveaways for any Ride for Respect participants that patrons their facility during the month of October.  Map out your adventure and collect all the 2020 commemorative items including Ride for Respect Poker Chip and LETR t-shirt.

Why Special Olympics Illinois?

Special Olympics Illinois is a not-for-profit organization that serves more than 23,000 traditional athletes with intellectual disabilities and 13,000 Young Athletes ages 2-7 with and without intellectual disabilities.  Through inclusive athletic, health and leadership programs, Special Olympics Illinois empowers our athletes to transform themselves, their communities and the world. Individuals with intellectual disabilities face societal, political and cultural discrimination, ranging from misunderstanding and bullying to isolation and exclusion. At the core of our mission, Special Olympics IL is a sports organization that uses the power of sports as a catalyst for social change.  We breakdown long-held misconceptions about people with intellectual disabilities by highlighting the inherent talent and unbounded promise of our athletes and how their spirit has, does and will continue to positively impact communities throughout Illinois.
