Due to concerns related to the spread of the Coronavirus, Special Olympics Illinois has made the difficult decision to suspend all sports, training and competition activities involving all athletes as well as our Polar Plunge events through March 31, 2020.
All Plungers are encouraged to stop by the Braidwood Rec Club located at 33915 S. Illinois Route 53 during the times listed below to turn in any offline donations and pick up your Plunge hooded sweatshirt.
Friday, March 13 from 4 p.m. - 6p.m.
Saturday, March 14 from 10 a.m. - noon.
If you are unable to make it, please contact Plunge Director Patty Welsh at 708-929-2113.
All 2020 Plunge donations must be submitted by noon on Monday, March 30 to qualify for Plunge incentives.
Rikki Kirsch has been competing in Special Olympics Illinios since 2010. She competes in track, aquatics, basketball, bocce, bowling, equestrian, golf, tennis and snowshoeing. In January 2017, Rikki was named as the first ever Athlete Liasion on the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Illinois State Committee. In 2019, she received the International LETR Athlete of the Year award. Rikki enjoys volunteering with her family for Special Olympics Illinois and can be seen at many events throughout the year. She has been a dedicated Polar Plunger the last 6 years!
The Polar Plunge, presented by Law Enforcement Torch Run and GEICO, is a unique opportunity to support Special Olympics athletes by taking a flying leap – a leap into the frigid waters of Braidwood Rec Club. Participants must raise $100 in donations from friends, family and co-workers in exchange for jumping into the icy waters.
