What is the Polar Plunge?

The Law Enforcement Torch Run Polar Plunge, presented by the Law Enforcement Torch Run and GEICO, is a unique opportunity to support Special Olympics athletes by taking a flying leap – a leap into the frigid waters of an Illinois lake. In 2015, there were Plunges in 20 locations.

How to participate in the Polar Plunge

Anyone can plunge – young and old. Only registered plungers will be allowed in the water. No one of any age is allowed to be carried into the water. A parent or guardian must sign the waiver form if a plunger is under age 18. Attire: Anything but a wetsuit. Shoes are recommended; costumes are encouraged. Remember to bring a towel to dry off! Participants must raise at least $100 in donations from friends, family and co-workers in exchange for jumping into the icy waters in the middle of winter. Each plunger receives a Polar Plunge sweatshirt and entrance into a Post-Plunge Party, plus the chance to win additional prizes for raising more money.

How to Register

Click on the register button above and then select your plunge. From there you will be asked to create a profile and a fundraising page will be generated for you. Plungers can sign up as individuals or teams. The first person to create a team will become the captain of that team and other plungers will be able to sign up for your team when registering.

Incentive Prizes

Plungers who brave the icy waters will receive incentive prizes at various fundraising levels. All Plungers who raised the minimum of $100 received a hooded sweatshirt. Individual Plungers and Teams are eligible for various other prizes as well.

Who Benefits?

All proceeds collected by plungers benefit Special Olympics Illinois athletes.
